Government Medical Clinic in Chisec
Partnering to improve care for the community
The local government clinic sees over 33,000 patients, and 8000 emergency patients, annually. This clinic has a lot of potential, and we have developed a partnership with the leadership to upgrade the infrastructure to deliver real patient care improvements. We have already provided new LED lights, dropped ceiling, paint, and ceiling fans for the main waiting area and some plumbing improvements. We have also remodeled an underutilized "outbuilding" into which the administration functions will move, freeing up consultation rooms for patient care. We have also built a large storage building to house the many supplies, beds, etc. that are currently being stored in the unused surgery rooms - this will enable us to remodel at least one of the surgical suites for use and trigger the government to send a surgeon to the clinic (and eliminate the need to send serious cases 90-120 minutes away).
In 2025, we completed the infrastructure for two new birthing rooms and a surgery room. These rooms are now complete and the clinic personnel moved operations in to them in early October 2026. We are now awaiting the local government to add electric system capacity for the new administration building so we can complete the project with air conditioners.
Thank you to all our generous donors - this project was fully funded.
Barrio San Pablo School (and other local schools)
This school near downtown Chisec serves about 190 children in Grades 1-5. We built a new kitchen, a new bathroom, septic pit, and handwashing station, and provided new desks, tables, and chairs for this elementary school. The parents provided all the labor for the project in partnership with our ministry.
We are now in the process of building two new classrooms at the Barrio El Zapote school in Chisec.
